Cornerstone Employee Launches Non-profit in Texarkana to Meet Needs of Community

Tom Greer was at church in Grand Prairie, not far from Dallas, when he first saw a “Blessing Box.” “It was like those ‘little free libraries’ you see except this was a place where people could drop off or pick up free clothing and other essential items. I was struck by both its simplicity and its uniqueness.”

Greer, a Texarkana native, eventually moved back to the area and brought his newfound idea with him. “I thought this was something we needed down here so I got in touch with some friends and we restarted a nonprofit we’d had a few years earlier,” he explained. Greer, a retired educator, is now bringing the idea of the Blessing Box to his new employer, Cornerstone, a local senior living community. “We have some of the most charitable, giving and loving residents here at Cornerstone,” Greer stated. “So of course, they’ve loved hearing about our Blessing Boxes and want to get involved however they can.”

Residents have already jumped into action, dropping off everything from old clothing to toiletries at the community’s front desk. From there, those items will make their way to Blessing Boxes across the Texarkana area.
